Sew Simple

Running/tacking stitch is the basic hand stitch for making a story scarf. All that is needed to start is a needle, a length of thread, a piece of recycled fabric and a pair of scissors. Cut the cotton or wool and thread it through the eye of the needle, knotting the end. Begin with the knot at the back of the fabric. Come up to the front of the fabric and insert the needle as shown in the photos below. When you have completed your running stitch, take the needle to the back of the fabric again and do a double stitch to end.

DesignTip: To add some interest, experiment by making the stitches different lengths!
